The early-bird registration deadline for the National; Federation of Press Women&#8217;s conference in Idaho Falls, Idaho, is August 10 &#8212; $299 for members and $345 for non-members. After that date, registration increases to $345 for members and $395 for non-members.
The conference runs Sept. 11-13.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Twenty NCPC members took home 95 winning entries and 45 First Place wins in the annual Communications Contest at the Annual Spring Conference and 30th Anniversary Celebration May 16-17 at the Clarion Hotel in Raleigh.</p>
<p>The First Place entries now compete in NFPW&#8217;s annual Communications Contest. Winners will be announced Sept. 13 at a banquet during the annual conference to be held in Idaho Falls, Id. Plan now to attend!</p>
<p><img class="alignleft" src="http://ncpressclub.org/assets/images/Cokie_Roberts_and_Members.jpg" alt="Cokie Roberts and Members" width="200" height="118" /> Highlights of the Spring Conference included Don Vaughan, founder of Triangle Area Freelancers, sharing tips garnered from his 17 years of freelancing at Saturday&#8217;s workshop, and a lecture by Cokie Roberts, a National Public Radio commentator and author of several books, Friday night at N.C. State University&#8217;s McKimmon Center on her latest - &#8220;Ladies of Liberty.&#8221;</p>
<p>Members were particularly pleased to meet with Roberts for a few minutes before her remarks.</p>

<p>The runners-up were the staff of <em>Cedar Cliff Notes</em> at A.C. Reynolds High in Asheville (advisor Phyllis Cooper), and the staff of <em>Pine Whispers</em> from R.J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem (advisor Kathy Rucker).</p>
<p>Judging is of one issue and based on a number of criteria including: overall story coverage, timeliness and balance of coverage, and design and use of graphics.</p>
